So, Newark school bosses dropped a cool $566,000 on a state-of-the-art gym with a personal trainer. And how many people use it? Seven. That's right, seven. Meanwhile, less than half the kids can read at grade level, and even fewer can do math. But hey, at least those seven people are getting fit while the rest of the student body can't calculate 2+2 without a calculator. In my day, we had a rope and a dirt field, and we liked it. We also learned to read, write, and count without a personal trainer holding our hands. This is what happens when you let bureaucrats with more money than sense run a school system. They'd rather buy elliptical machines than textbooks. And you wonder why kids today can't find their way out of a paper bag? It's because the bag has a gym membership. Pathetic.
